Ведение Государственного водного кадастра осуществляется специально уполномоченными государственными органами. Каждый водный объект, занесенный в Государственный водный кадастр, должен иметь регистрационный номер, наименование и комплексную характеристику, содержащую физико-географические, гидрологические, правовые и экономические показатели.
